Indian passport photo in the UK: size and where to apply

Where to apply in the UK

Indian passport renewals in the UK are handed in at VFS Global, the High Commission's only service partner (Consulate General of India, Edinburgh).

The Indian passport photo rules

Indian passport photos follow the ICAO guidelines: colour, white background, face 80 to 85% of the frame, glasses off (passportindia.gov.in: Guidelines for ICAO compliant photographs). The Passport Seva upload is exactly 630×810 pixels, JPEG, under 250 KB (VFS Global: Passport Seva photo and signature upload instructions (Nov 2025)). For the prints, VFS UK's current checklist (August 2026) asks for two identical 35×45 mm photos on a pure white background, the same as the 630×810 px upload, with no glasses (VFS Global UK: Passport Renew/Fresh checklist (Aug 2026)).

Which centre for your area

Your address decides which Indian mission handles your application: the High Commission in London, the Consulate General in Birmingham or the Consulate General in Edinburgh. Either way you hand it in at a VFS Global centre, and all appointments are booked on the High Commission of India's appointment page (Consulate General of India, Birmingham: services through VFS).

VFS also runs a centre in Leicester, which the Consul General in Birmingham visited in June 2026 (Consulate General of India, Birmingham: visit to the VFS centre in Leicester (June 2026)). Check on the booking page which services each centre takes before you book.

Or make it at home. Picproved costs £5.99 (free while we launch) for one person's photo in every size you need, and it checks the size, background, head size and face rules before you save. The office still makes the final decision. Make your India Passport photo
