Questions

Is a photo booth or a phone better for a passport photo?
A booth gives you prints and a digital code in one go, but each retake costs again and nobody checks the photo. A phone lets you retake for free and check it before you use it, and for a UK passport online GOV.UK accepts a photo you take yourself.
Can I take my own UK passport photo instead of going to a booth?
Yes, for an online application. GOV.UK lets you take a digital photo yourself or ask someone to take it, as long as it follows the photo rules. For a paper form you need printed photos, and GOV.UK says photos printed at home are unlikely to be good enough, so print at a photo kiosk or shop.
