Who needs it

Indian citizens living abroad who hold an Indian passport and haven't taken another citizenship can register as an overseas elector with Form 6A, on the Election Commission's Voters' Service Portal. You vote in person at your constituency in India.

How to apply

  1. Sign in on the Voters' Service Portal and choose Form 6A (overseas elector). (Election Commission of India: Voters' Service Portal)
  2. Upload a recent passport-size colour photo and copies of your passport pages with the visa or residence permit. (Election Commission of India: Voters' Service Portal)

How to take the India Overseas elector registration (Form 6A) photo on your phone

  1. Stand about an arm's length from a plain white wall, facing a window or other soft light, so there are no shadows on your face or behind you.
  2. Take off your glasses if you can, push your hair away from your eyes and eyebrows, and keep a neutral face with your mouth closed.
  3. Hold the phone at eye level, or ask someone to take it. Picproved's camera tells you when your head is straight, centred and the right size.
  4. Picproved crops the photo to 35×45 mm (413×531 pixels) with the head 31.5 to 36 mm tall, evens out the white background and checks every rule before you save.
  5. Save the file: it comes out up to 2 MB, ready to upload.
