Cambodia Passport (info only) photo: taken at the office
Passports are enrolled in person at the General Department of Identification, where your photo is taken.
Note on the sources: No official photo rule for applicants was found; confirm at the office.
Official rules: Ministry of Interior (General Department of Identification). Rules checked on 26 October 2026.
How to apply
- Since 2021 a Cambodian passport can only be renewed in Cambodia, at the Identification Office; embassies can no longer extend one.
- Applying there in person gets you the biometric e-passport: your photo and fingerprints are taken at the office.
- If you can't travel, a relative, friend or agent in Cambodia can renew it for you with an attestation letter from your embassy. That passport has no biometric data, fewer pages and a soft cover, but is just as valid.

Applying from abroad
From abroad, either travel to Cambodia or ask your embassy for the attestation letter for someone to apply for you. If your passport has expired or has under 6 months left, the embassy can issue a temporary travel document (laissez-passer). (Cambodian mission in Geneva (mfaic.gov.kh): passport renewal)
