Who needs it

The Freedom Pass gives free travel across London to residents of a London borough who are 66 or older (the older person's pass) or who have an eligible disability. London Councils issues it for every borough.

How to apply

  1. Apply online with London Councils, or on a paper form from your borough. (London Councils: Freedom Pass)
  2. Use a colour photo, 45×35 mm, taken within the last 12 months, against a plain, evenly lit, pale background, facing forward without a hat. (London Councils: Freedom Pass photo requirements)
  3. Upload it as a JPEG, PDF or TIFF, or send a print with a paper form. A photo that doesn't meet the rules means the application is refused. (London Councils: Freedom Pass photo requirements)

Printing the photos

One 6×4 inch print holds 8 photos of 35×45 mm: the 1 you need and 7 spare. Print at 100% scale, not fit to page.

How to take the United Kingdom Freedom Pass (London) photo on your phone

  1. Stand about an arm's length from a plain cream or light grey wall, facing a window or other soft light, so there are no shadows on your face or behind you.
  2. Tilt clear glasses so they don't reflect the light, push your hair away from your eyes and eyebrows, and keep a neutral face with your mouth closed.
  3. Hold the phone at eye level, or ask someone to take it. Picproved's camera tells you when your head is straight, centred and the right size.
  4. Picproved crops the photo to 35×45 mm (700×900 pixels) with the head 29 to 34 mm tall, evens out the cream background and checks every rule before you save.
  5. Save the file to upload, or a print sheet to print at a photo kiosk.
