Renewing your passport at the Post Office (Check and Send)
Short answer: yes. Post Offices with Passport Check and Send can take your photo and help you renew online, for £16 on top of the passport fee (£102 for an adult, £66.50 for a child). The paper service checks and sends your form for the same £16, but the photos cost extra. Not every branch offers it (GOV.UK: Passport Check and Send service).
GOV.UK's Check and Send page checked on 3 November 2026. Fees and rules change, so check the linked GOV.UK page before you pay.
An example made with AI, not a real person: the same rules apply whether a branch, a booth or you take the photo.

What to bring
Renewing or replacing: your old passport if you still have it, and proof of a new name, such as a marriage certificate, if it has changed.
Lost passport: the name and email address of someone who can confirm your identity.
First adult passport: that person's email address, and your parents' names, dates and places of birth, nationality, passport details and marriage details.
Under 16: both parents' details, and the email address of someone to confirm the child's identity, unless you're renewing for a child of 12 or over and have their old passport with you.
Use the Post Office branch finder and choose "Passport Check and Send - digital" or "Passport Check and Send - paper" from the list (GOV.UK: Passport Check and Send service).
Is it worth £16?
It helps: GOV.UK says an application is less likely to be rejected with Check and Send, and paper applications sent this way are usually faster than posting your own. You get email and text updates.
It isn't a promise: GOV.UK says using it doesn't mean the application will succeed, and you can't get a refund if the application is rejected, only if HM Passport Office writes to say the Post Office made a mistake.
Doing it yourself costs less: online at home it's £102 for an adult, with a photo taken on your own device during the application (GOV.UK: Get a passport photo). Online is also £13.50 cheaper than a paper form.
The photo rules
Online: in colour, at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, 50 KB to 10 MB, taken in the last month (GOV.UK: Get a passport photo).
Paper form: 2 identical prints, 45 mm high by 35 mm wide, on a plain cream or light grey background, the head 29 to 34 mm from crown to chin (GOV.UK: Printed passport photos).
A plain expression with your mouth closed, eyes open, no hair over your eyes and no shadows on your face or behind you (GOV.UK: Get a passport photo).
Or make it at home. Picproved costs £5.99 (free while we launch) for one person's photo in every size you need, and it checks the size, background, head size and face rules before you save. The office still makes the final decision. Make your United Kingdom Passport (online) photo
