Nigerian passports are applied for on the NIS portal with a photo you upload (Nigeria Immigration Service: renewal of passport). Contactless biometric capture for renewals has been rolled out to the USA (Embassy of Nigeria, Washington: contactless biometric capture (Nov 2024)).

Every photo you need, and who takes it

From each office's own website, checked October 2026. Lines marked Check are ones the office doesn't fully settle. Rules change, so confirm before you apply.

Renew a Nigerian passport from the USA

  1. On the NIS portal choose renewal, verify your NIN, upload the photo and pay. (Nigeria Immigration Service: renewal of passport)
  2. Book biometrics at your mission, or use contactless capture for an adult renewal. (Embassy of Nigeria, Washington: contactless biometric capture (Nov 2024))

Tip: A US passport photo is square. The Nigerian upload is 600×800 pixels, so save a separate file.

Make it at home. Free while we launch. After that, one payment of $7.99 covers one person's photo in every size on this page. Picproved checks the size, background, head size and face rules before you save, and your photo stays on your phone. The office still makes the final decision.
