Passport photo rejected: head too big or too small? How to fix it

Passport photo rejected: head too big or too small: how to fix it

What the rules say

Photos taken too close or too far away are rejected (travel.state.gov: Passport photos). Each document sets how tall the head must be from chin to crown; for a UK print it's 29 to 34 mm of the 45 mm height (GOV.UK: Rules for printed photos).

How to fix it

  1. Hold the camera at arm's length or further, or ask someone to take it from about 1.5 metres.
  2. Include your head, the top of your shoulders and some space above your hair, then crop to size afterwards.

What Picproved checks

Picproved measures the head from chin to crown and Auto-fit crops it into each document's range. Your photo stays on your device.

Or make it at home. Picproved costs £5.99 (free while we launch) for one person's photo in every size you need, and it checks the size, background, head size and face rules before you save. The office still makes the final decision. Make your United Kingdom Passport (print) photo
