How to make the UPSC files, step by step

  1. Photo: a recent colour photo on a white background, with your face filling most of the frame. UPSC's photo instructions sit under Instructions and FAQs on upsconline.nic.in: Instructions and FAQs: JPG, 20 to 200 KB.
  2. Live photo: the form also takes a photo with your camera while you fill it in, and it must match the uploaded one (UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) 2026 notice, Notes 2 and 3).
  3. Signature: sign three times, one below the other, on plain white paper in black ink, and upload all three as one image of 20 to 100 KB (UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) 2026 notice, Notes 2 and 3).

Each step was read on the official notice it links to on 4 November 2026.
