For a UK passport online you can take the photo yourself: GOV.UK accepts a digital photo you or someone else takes, as long as it meets the rules (GOV.UK: Get a passport photo). For a paper form you need two printed photos (GOV.UK: Rules for printed photos). See Passport photo code UK: do you need one?

Questions

Does Jessops do passport photos?
Yes, in its stores. Jessops lists a passport photo at £12.99, a UK online renewal code on its own at £12.99, or the photo and the code together at £16.99 (Jessops: Passport photos). The code is what you type into the GOV.UK online application; the printed photos are for a paper form.
Which Jessops option do I need for a UK passport?
For an online application, the digital code: you type it into GOV.UK. For a paper form, the printed photos. If you don't know yet how you'll apply, the £16.99 option gives you both.
Does the Jessops code work for a first passport or a child's passport?
Jessops calls it a renewal code. GOV.UK's photo code step is part of every online application, so if you aren't renewing, ask the store whether its code works for yours.
Can I take my own UK passport photo instead of going to Jessops?
Yes, for an online application. GOV.UK lets you take a digital photo yourself or ask someone to take it, as long as it follows the photo rules. For a paper form you need printed photos, and GOV.UK says photos printed at home are unlikely to be good enough, so print at a photo kiosk or shop.
What is a digital photo code?
A code that a booth or shop gives you with your photos. You type it into the GOV.UK online application and your photo is added to it. If you take the photo on your own device during the application instead, you don't need a code.
