Which one to pick

Online application: any shop or booth in the list gives you a digital code to type into GOV.UK. Or take the photo at home and upload the file.

Paper form: you need 2 identical printed photos, 45 mm by 35 mm. Shops and booths print them; at home you can print a 6×4 sheet at a photo kiosk.

Want it checked? Pick a staffed shop. Booths have nobody to check the photo, and a retake means paying again.

Want the whole application done for you? The Post Office's Digital Check and Send takes the photo and sends the application, for £16 on top of the passport fee.

Or make it at home. Picproved costs £5.99 (free while we launch) for one person's photo in every size you need, and it checks the size, background, head size and face rules before you save. The office still makes the final decision. Make your United Kingdom Passport (online) photo

Questions

Where can I get a passport photo in Birmingham?

We found 6 places in the city centre, around New Street and the Bullring: 3 staffed photo shops, 2 self-service booths and a Post Office with Digital Check and Send. Each one's own page lists its address and passport photos. For an online application you can also take the photo at home.

Which places in Birmingham give a digital photo code?

The 5 shops and booths in the list do: their chains say the passport photos come with a digital code to type into the GOV.UK online application. The Post Office is different: it takes your photo and sends the application for you, so there is no code to use yourself.

Do I need to book a passport photo in Birmingham?

Not at the shops and booths in the list, which take walk-ins in opening hours. Shops can be busy on Saturdays; a booth is quicker but nobody checks the photo.

Can I take my own passport photo instead?

Yes, for an online application. GOV.UK accepts a digital photo you or someone else takes, as long as it meets the rules: plain light background, no shadows, neutral expression, eyes open. For a paper form you need 2 identical printed photos, 45 mm high by 35 mm wide.
