Questions
- Which OCI cases are covered?
- New OCI, Indian origin, New OCI through parents or grandparents, New OCI for a child, New OCI for a foreign spouse, OCI miscellaneous: new passport or lost card, PIO card to OCI.
- Why does the OCI portal say "format error"?
- Usually the file: a progressive JPEG, two file endings, a renamed iPhone photo, or a PDF over the limit. The upload doctor finds the cause and saves a fixed copy.
- Where do the rules come from?
- The MHA's OCI portal FAQ and each mission's own checklist: the UK: VFS Global UK: OCI supporting documents checklist (Oct 2025); the USA: VFS Global USA: OCI services; the UAE: ociservices.gov.in: OCI FAQ (Ministry of Home Affairs); Canada: BLS International Canada: checklist and information booklet for OCI (Toronto); Australia: VFS Global Australia: OCI checklist (March 2026); New Zealand: ociservices.gov.in: OCI FAQ (Ministry of Home Affairs); Germany: Embassy of India, Berlin: OCI general information; the Netherlands: Embassy of India, The Hague: OCI checklist (Feb 2026). Checked 24 Oct 2026.
- Is the checklist the same in every country?
- No. The documents that prove who you are come from the MHA's rules everywhere, but the prints, the local address and status proofs, the attestation and the biometrics are each mission's own. Choose your country in the app.
